Meet the Princpal
Principal Karen Barker
Associate Principal Tina Livingston
Welcome to the first year of Clara Barton Elementary,
The community has embraced the new school with unbridled enthusiasm. The staff, students and parents are enjoying the new building, getting to know new friends and finding that healthy rhythm that all great schools possess. I joined the staff in late October as the Associate Principal. My job is to support learners, the principal, staff and parents.
As a retired elementary principal with forty years of educational experience, it was a pleasure to serve as principal of Rosa Parks and Rockwell. Now, I am delighted to once again work alongside my friends in the Lake Washington School District for the 2018-2019 school year.
My husband of 44 years and I have three grown children, two grandchildren and were thrilled to find out recently another grandchild will be arriving in May. In my spare time I enjoy gardening, traveling, having lunch with friends and spoiling our children, their spouses and our grandchildren!
I look forward to meeting and connecting with you as we walk this educational path together.
Administrative Intern Jon Hodgson
Dear Clara BartonFamilies,
I am thrilled to be a part of such an incredible team of educators and can’t wait to get started with all of the great work together which lies ahead!
My journey in education was non-linear; I graduated from The University of Leeds in England, with a bachelor’s in Law and Management and the intent to go into practicing family law. It soon became apparent that my zeal was in the transformation of lives and tackling the regular injustice faced by many, which led me to one my true passions – teaching. I’d always worked with younger students in sports coaching and several other voluntary community efforts and thus teaching was the vehicle for serving my community and helping students redefine and make strides forward in their limitless potential. Plus, spending all day with elementary students is never short of laughs and genuinely amazing achievements!
I earned my teaching degree from Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln, England. After teaching second and third grade for several years, I made the move across the pond to the US and have just come from Emily Dickinson Elementary where I taught third grade for five years. My time at Dickinson was certainly the highlight of my career so far, and I can’t wait to build those wonderful connections again at Clara Barton.
I have recently completed my master’s in Educational Leadership from Seattle Pacific University, which has provided me with a strong platform to step into my role as administrative intern this year. Here I look forward to the wider community involvement, getting to know all of the students and supporting the teachers with the fabulous learning that goes on in their classrooms.
When I’m not teaching or leading, I love spending time with my wonderful wife Linette and our 2-year-old ball of energy and delight, Penelope. We enjoy the outdoors, reading together, creating or just spending time on the bleachers at Safeco Field! Also, I am unashamedly an LA Rams fan, and I’m happy to discuss this in more detail at any time!
